Bäst: Bortsett från Watchmen och Sandman (som spelar på en helt egen plan) så är de största favoriterna Busieks nya Astro City-album, McKilips Od Magic och Reynolds Revelation Space. Första halvan av Mannen som dog som lax var också riktigt bra, men sedan gick det tyvärr utför (fortfarande bra, men inte lika).

Sämst: Grant Morrisons Batman and son var intetsägande och ointressant. Förvånande med tanke på hur mycket Morrisons Batman har hyllats. Pratchetts Nation är nog årets största besvikelse.

Meh: Scalzis Zoe’s tale var okej, men alldeles för lik The last colony för att utmärka sig.

Vad ska du läsa nu?

Åh nej, det är sommar och alla deckare är redan utlånade på bibblan! Då är det dags att vidga dina vyer. Jag föreslår att du går och köper:

  • JM McDermott, Last dragon. Värd att läsa för den ”Pulp fiction”-aktiga stilen.
  • Mark Millar, Wanted. Vedervärdigt bra. Läs den innan du ser filmen.
  • Frank Miller, All-Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder. Snyggare får man leta efter.
  • Michael Chabon, The Yiddish Policemen’s Union. Därför att det är fantastiskt med ordvitsar man inte fattar.

Kolla in förteckningen över vilka av 2008 års Hugo-nomineringar som finns tillgängliga online. Bra att ha när det inte finns något att göra på jobbet.

Rösta på Locus awards! Ett utmärkt sätt att upptäcka hur mycket bra grejer man aldrig kommer att hinna läsa. (Via Whatever.)

Dagens boktips!

Just nu läser jag The Blade Itself av Joe Abercrombie. Namnet må låta som ett påhitt, men boken är sjukt jäkla bra. Alla fantasygenrens schabloner finns där — speciellt i huvudpersonerna — men de är på något sätt … annorlunda. Mer verkliga och … tja … helt enkelt sjukt mycket bättre skrivna än i 98% av alla andra böcker jag läst.

Rekommenderas tokmycket.
